Day 5 Sauvauge to St Alban de Limognole 3km to bus

Well after all that up up up yesterday I wanted to sit down down down! As luck would have it one of my fromargerie friends had some difficulties walking and wanted to catch a bus to the next town and fix her feet. So we walked a few kilometres from Sauvauge to catch a bus.

Thankfully I didnt listen to the lady at Sauvage who informed me it was only 20 minutes away. She must’ve been a marathon runner. Or maybe I am still the slowest pilgrim on the camino!

Either way Madame Fromagerie was glad we had left earlier. It was a reasonably easy walk but it was up and it was further than 20 minutes – in fact it was almost an hour as we took a few photos as we left and then enjoyed the forest environment. I am trying to formalise a name for the purposes of anonymity as she may be a member of the french resistance! Who knows! Madame F was good company!

So we arrived early at the Gite in Saint Alban de Limagnole and were greeted with access to our own rooms. I was also able to soak my feet in cold water and stick my feet up the wall for some relief.

We didnt have great joy with the pharmacy but sat in the square for a while greeting the many pilgrims arriving on foot which is always a great thrill! Everyone greets people as if they’ve known them forever. The shared joy of people managing the great distances is real. Among the arrivals was my new friend who I had met the night of the exorcism. The Wild Man from Byron is testing out his feet for long distances as he slowly makes his way to Santiago in honor of his wife. That’s 1400km away! She was clearly a special human.

We sat for a coffee and I was impressed with this cappuccino I can tell you!

Also saw a cat drinking at the local bar. He jumped from the stool and sat with some locals to while away the day.

Madame F and I returned to the Gite had a great dinner with the only other guests being the brother and friend of the owner and I was able to practice some french while they utilised their English skills. The wine was good as you would expect in this neck of the woods! But then the soft drink ain’t bad either!

I would definitely sleep well in my own room after sharing with the grandparent double last night. Bonsoir!
